Last Day for Week Two

Hello everyone..

Another bright sunny day again at Loveland, perfect for taking pictures.

Today was a free ski day, (no gate training) so Peter, Ali and the kids were ripping it up!

As I write, the kids are packing and cleaning and getting ready to come home tomorrow.

It has been a long, but fun week for all these kids and each and every one of them is excited about gettting home.

See you all in

Tessa’s Birthday at KVR!

Today (Wednesday), the racer’s were “in the gates” with paneled slalom drills.  As I write, they are reviewing the day’s video with Maris and Ali.  Pete is in the garage helping them tune and in particular, sharpen their skies.

It was warm today, however the temperature is expected to drop tomorrow.  In addition, Loveland flooded, (as in hockey rink flooded), the race course today so it will be icy tomorrow.

The big news today would of course be Tessa’s birthday!

After another great “Ali prepared meal” of pork tenderloin, with potato wedges and salad we celebrated Tessa’s 12th birthday!  The house was still decorated from Kelly’s birthday last week!

Below are pictures from the day events with Tessa’s birthday being the highlight!

Go KVR!

(A little message in the fresh snow from Pano)

First of all, thank goodness you’re all eating your porridge!  You don’t want to face the wrath of Peter Bassin Sr. if he finds out you weren’t….

All kidding aside, I have really enjoyed keeping up with your progress this camp through the blog.  It looks like a lot of fun is being had while still learning to be rock star skiers.

As for me, well, two days ago was my first day skiing gates in nearly two years.  To be back in the mountains, breathing the fresh cold air, and arching some fun turns was more than I could have asked for.  I am smiling from ear to ear; I’ve missed this.

One thing I’ve learned over my career, is that you have to work really, really (and even one more…really) hard to get better and reach your goals.  However, the even bigger lesson I’ve learned is that you can work hard while still enjoying the process.  Today, my arms were getting beaten up from the gates and my feet were frozen – but you couldn’t wipe the smile from my face.  I was taking every turn seriously and approaching every run with thought and effort.  However, this didn’t stop me from enjoying the scenery; enjoying the feeling of a powerful carving ski; and feeling grateful that my favourite toy (my body) is ready to play again.

For now, while I’m training in Panorama, and your working hard in Colorado (or back at school for the one weekers) I’m sending you all healthy, fast, and fun vibes!

Go KVR!!!
